Approximately 18 million people receive grants from the South African Social Security Agency each month. Grant recipients will receive their money when they are paid by the agency responsible for grant payments.
Approximately 18 million permanent social grants are distributed every month by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). Permanent Sassa grant recipients receive their money during the first week of every month.
Sassa distributes a number of permanent grants, including the Older Persons grant, the Disability grant, the War Veterans grant, the Child Support grant, the Care Dependency grant, the Foster Care grant, and the top-up Child Support grant.
Grant payments will begin on Wednesday, 3 May 2023 with the distribution of older person’s grants. Later in the week, the disability grants and children’s support grants will be distributed.

A grant payment date is the date on which the beneficiary can collect their funds at a post office branch or a designated pay point. Several retail stores, including Pick N Pay, Boxer, Usave, Shoprite, and Checkers, allow grant recipients to collect their money.
Sassa also offers beneficiaries the option of receiving their grant directly into their bank account. Many beneficiaries find this option attractive because it allows them to access their money at any time.
On the first day, you don’t need to rush to withdraw cash. The money will remain in the account until it is needed.
Sassa assured beneficiaries that their money would still be available even if they didn’t collect it on the set date. As once the money has been paid, it will remain in the beneficiary’s account until it is needed.
