Sassa Grant Payment Dates For January 2023

Millions of people receive social grants on a monthly basis. A social grant is usually administered at the beginning of every month to the recipients of the grant.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) disbursed social grant payments to beneficiaries in December 2023.

During this time of year, the country observes a number of holidays, and Sassa confirmed that grant payments will continue except on weekends and public holidays.

Due to the fact that the New Year falls on a Sunday, the 2nd of January 2022, it will be observed as a public holiday. Payments will begin on 3 January 2023 for the government agency.

These are the payment dates for the month of January 2023, according to Sassa:

OLDER PERSONS GRANT03/01/2023
DISABILITY GRANTS04/01/2023
CHILDREN’S GRANTS AND OTHER GRANTS05/01/2023

Sassa’s Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD) does not have a set payment date as it is a temporary grant.

SRD grant recipients will instead be notified of their grant payment dates via text message. They can also visit the official SRD grant website to find out when they can collect their monies.

Earlier this year, the Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, announced an increase in some social grants.

These social grants were increased in April 2022 and again in October 2022.
